Michael Sanchez – Interim Minister of Music

Michael Sanchez was born (to his great surprise!) in Walla Walla, Washington and attended high school in nearby Milton-Freewater, Oregon.  Moving to the Portland Metro area in 2001, Michael played trumpet for the Mt. Hood Community College Jazz band and later went on to Portland State University where he studied voice and horn.

Michael has been the Director of Music at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oregon City, Oregon and the Tenor Section Leader at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Portland, Oregon.  Currently, he is the Interim Minister of Music and Verger at Christ Church Episcopal Parish.

To support his music habit, Michael teaches Band at Skyridge Middle School in Camas, Washington.  When not engaging in music related activities (which is much of the time), Michael is an avid racquetball player and participates in a local racquetball league.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Vergers’ Guild of the Episcopal Church and is co-Chair of their Communications & Technology Committee.  In his free time, he enjoys watching professional wrestling (a habit that he picked up from his grandmother!), playing video games, visiting with friends, cooking, reading, and staying out of trouble.

Michael and his husband Josef live in Vancouver, Washington.
